Strings and cast-iron plate

Restoration of the stringing system and work on the cast-iron plate and components carrying the instrument’s high structural loads.

Piano strings operate under very high tension, while the cast-iron plate is one of the key structural elements carrying that load. The condition and layout of the strings, and their relationship with the plate, matter for structural safety as well as for later tuning and the musical response of the instrument.

Depending on what is required, the work may include replacing all or selected strings, preparing the instrument for restringing, and cleaning or conserving the plate and related components. Every intervention takes the construction and original stringing layout of the particular instrument into account.
